Bel Air is one of the most famous neighborhoods in the US, and is part of Los Angeles’ “three Bs” Beverly Hills, Bel Air, and Brentwood. It’s a small affluent residential community in the hills of the Westside of the city of Los Angeles.
Directly adjacent to Beverly Hills, Bel Air is located between Holmby Hills and Beverly Hills on the east and Westwood with UCLA on the south at Sunset Boulevard, and is bordered by Brentwood on the west and southwest, and Sherman Oaks on the north, with a small part of Mulholland Drive on the north.
The prestigious community of Bel Air was founded in 1923 by Alphonzo E. Bell, a farmer who discovered oil on his land in Santa Fe Springs and became so rich that he bought a large ranch which he subdivided and developed with residential lots on what is now Bel Air Road.
Together with Beverly Hills and Holmby Hills it forms the Platinum Triangle of Los Angeles neighborhoods. Bel Air is situated about 12 miles (19 km) west of downtown Los Angeles and includes some of the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains and is considered Los Angeles proper. It is is served by Los Angles city services, including Los Angeles Fire and Police.
Bel Air which epitomizes privacy, cosmetic integrity and impeccably manicured surroundings is famous for its large, gated luxury estates and mansions while there are still some remaining modest villas and charming ranch style homes.
Whatever the size and price of the houses, ordinances regarding architectural styles and lot sizes help preserve this well-manicured community. The Bel Air real estate market provide a multitude of luxurious properties and residences that accommodate a wide range of tastes, needs and lifestyles. These properties offer a combination of privacy, space, grandeur and idyllic atmosphere.
The Bel Air mansions are hidden, away from the roads behind magnificent gates, trees and landscaping. Each property is distinct but all homes offer gracious architecture, spacious interiors open up to large exteriors, multi-acre garden, courtyards, fountains and olympic size pools.
It is for these reasons that Bel Air is home to numerous Hollywood celebrities and high-profile corporate executives and leaders of industry (Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian & Kanye West).
Of several entrances, there are two main ones: the East Gate at Beverly Glen and Sunset Boulevards and the West Gate at Bellagio Road and Sunset Boulevard, in front of UCLA.
Bel Air is generally subdivided into two distinct neighborhoods: the Upper Bel Air district and the Lower Bel Air district (East Gate Old Bel Air and West Gate Bel Air).
Upper Bel Air situated in the higher of the Santa Monica mountains offers some newer luxury homes, villas, ranch style homes and estates mostly with exceptional views of the Los Angeles basin.
Houses in Lower Bel Air are the most magnificent and luxuriously appointed properties, which are conveniently located near all the major activities and attractions that Los Angeles has to offer.
Very few communities can rival the number of multi-million dollar properties that are available in Bel Air.
